Just wandered - is it ok to use stock cubes in cooking for my one year old dd? Thought perhaps they maybe to salty. Maybe there's some form of low salt stock cubes out there. Any advice would be appreciated.

Personally I think stock cubes are much too salty for a one year old. There are lots of brands of low salt stock cubes around - try a health food shop if you can't find them in the supermarket. However its not necessary to use stock cubes - just flavour with herbs etc instead then you can be sure its ok. HTH

Cow & Gate do a baby gravy powder. Don't know if that is any use in cooking though. Seemed VERY bland to me when I tried it with DD. Didn't know you could get low-salt stock cubes - going to find them this weekend.

I think Sainsburys do tubs of no added salt pots of stock - at least they used to when I was cooking for ds before he was 1. To be honest though, once he was one I relaxed a bit more and now just use bog standard knorr cubes.

Stock cubes are too salty. Try adding celery / celery tops - they give a really savoury flavour. Chicken stock made from boiling up leftover roast chicken carcass with carrot, celery, onion if you have the time gives really good flavour even without any salt added.

I use Kallo Low Salt Vegetable stock cubes which I get from our local health food shop or nearest Holland and Barratt. They are OK - the flavour although quite nice is a little bland so I compensate by using plenty of herbs and flavoursome veg. in whatever dish I'm cooking.

Help please!! Would greatly appreciate ideas for easy finger food for my DD's first birthday bash. There's gonna be about twenty-five adults and about seven kids ranging from one to six! (crazy I know but the whole things just esculated!!)
