Father in law brought us a lovely big bag of chicken breasts. Usually individually wrapped, I plonked the whole bag in the freezer.
Last night I discovered that they weren't individualy wrapped after all, and so I had a big giant ball of frozen chicken breast to contend with.
Realising that it would not defrost thouroughly if I just left it in the fridge, I decided it was either the bin, or a bowl of cold water. So, last night I dunked it in a big bowl of water to aid the defrosting!
Now, it smells ok, but it's gone white. I am not sure if I've killed it. I dont want to throw it away uneccessarily. I also don't want to poison my family......argh!
Help!!

Was hte chicken still in the bag when you put it in the water?

poopscoop · 19/05/2009 12:50

yep. tis fucked!

Goober · 19/05/2009 12:52

Is fine, you have just washed off the nasty coating that manufacturers added.
Make sure you clean up well, re. salmonela.

Crackopenthebaileys · 19/05/2009 12:53

oooh it's fucked and it'll be fine. Russian roulette with the chicken fingers tonight then!
Erm, no mercy, now you say it I realise that was a big error!

poopscoop · 19/05/2009 12:55

actually have no idea if its fucked or not!

Overmydeadbody · 19/05/2009 12:55

It is most definately not fucked!!!

Ok, what you have to do now is cook it all up, even if you just cube it and cook it in a frying pan, and then you can re-freeze it all (in smaller portions lol) and just use what you need today. Then you'll be able to use it from frozen in dishes.

Overmydeadbody · 19/05/2009 12:56

no need to clean it goobs, cooking it will kill anything nasty

Crackopenthebaileys · 19/05/2009 12:57

ok so it seems that it's not fucked.....yay, it's rather a lot of chicken!
So, anyone know why it went white then?
Also, would you feed it to 16 mo baby?

yes, don't listen to me, I am just a troublemaker!

Enjoy your chicken tonight, and tomorrow, thursday, friday......

Crackopenthebaileys · 19/05/2009 13:02

haha good job we all love chicken!
So, omdb, would I just take it out of the freezer and defrost in the fridge overnight just like raw chicken? Then heat in the pan as usual?

((I know I'm a doofus, but I'm really crap at this whole kitchen/food malarkey!)

Bet its like the christmas special of the royale family in your house with that fuck off great big turkey they were heaving around their flat.

Will you be serving it with cuppa soup with a twist?

Crackopenthebaileys · 19/05/2009 13:07

ohhhh I'm out of the loop I'm afraid, I don't watch it!

My cooking attempt is more like rachel from friends, with the shepherds pie/trifle concoction!

Overmydeadbody · 19/05/2009 13:18

yep either take it out of the freezer and defrost first, or just chuck it in a hot frying pan straight from frozen.

Crackopenthebaileys · 19/05/2009 13:35

thanks so much for the advice
