Weaning a 7 month old off pureed food.....

My little girl is 7.5 months old and I has always fed really well on pureed food. In the last week i have given her some toast, baby rice cakes and some other bits and she loves feeding herself. On the next stage jars, she wasn;t that keen as the lumps made her gag abit. What did people do? straight on to finger food? although how do you know they're eating enough that way?!! any advice xx

If they are hungry they will eat IME.
My 7mo DS now eats bits of whatever we eat for lunch and dinner.

I would give her a go with more finger foods and see how she gets on. She is obviously happy with more solid foods and tbh 2nd stage jars would make me gag too .

For the 1st year eating solids is about exploring new tastes and textures. The nutrition is mostly coming from milk so do not get too het up about quantities.

Sounds like she is doing really well!

thanks - she is she's really healthy and has a great appetite and seems to enjoy feeding herself.

What sort of things did you give your little one?

Tbh he's a little food monster star who will eat anything he's given. His current favourites are pieces of cheese, any sort of roast veg in chip sized pieces, slices of omlette and any meat as long as it's cut small enough.

I've just taken to cutting up bits of whatever we have and putting them on his highchair tray.
Yesterday I made fish cakes, jacket potato and salad so that's what he had.

It might be worth having a look at some of the baby-led weaning threads as there are often some good suggestions on different foods to offer.

What about giving her some things you've mashed yourself such as sweet potato? Also DD loves the baby sized pasta with a tomato sauce.
