Is it worth using fresh tomatoes for this?

I'm planning on making a tomato and bean soup.

The recipe calls for 2 pounds of fresh tomatoes. Could I replace that with good quality tinned tomatoes or will it be much nicer if I use fresh tomatoes?

The Italian ones. Any Italian ones.

Oh well, obviously we'll have to agree to disagree. I think fresh taste really different from tinned, though, even cooked.

For soup I always used tinned tomatoes, I would follow your DH's method, chuck it in, and then taste, add salt and pepper/garlic etc. Soups don't need recipes

Ha! I'm not really worried enough about it to properly fight but if you really want to, I'll do my best.
