Chocolate cake decoration - can I combine buttercream and ganache on same cake?

Or will it taste really strange?

Was planning to fill a Chocolate sponge sandwich with choc buttercream, and then top with ganache - will it work or is it best to stick to just buttercream?

Can you make ganache with milk choc to make it less bitter?

It will be fine and won't taste strange.

Deffo not best to stick with buttercream, ganache is sooooo much nicer.

Yes you can make it with milk chocolte, but I'd stick to dark, it's not that bitter.

I'm so nervous about this cake - it's for my FIL's big 65th birthday party and for some reason MIL decided that I was capable of producing something decent!

So, choc buttercream in the middle, and ganache on top. Maybe some white choc decoration depending how ambitious I'm feeling.

Thanks for the reassurance!

You could put ganache in the middle too. But then I hate buttercream, so am biased. And yes, use dark - the bitterness will be taken away by the other ingredients. milk won't be chocolately enough.
