How much food per person at a party or barbecue?

It's DS first birthday party on Saturday. Yay!

We're having either a barbecue or just a tea party depending on the weather, so I need to write two shopping lists, but I don't want to waste money/food, but I'd be mortified if there wasn't enough!

How much?

And any suggestions?

Will most guests be adults or children?

How many guests?

Approx 15-18 adults one veggie, two teens who won't like anything and a 1 year old and 16 month old.

I asked a catering company about doing a BBQ a while back and they said they usually do approx 3 pieces of meat per head plus salads, potato's, garlic bread or any other extras required.

plus I'd stick some frozen sausages and burgers in your freezer which can be microwave derosted in an emergency but if not needed can be used for meals in weeks to come - i.e. no waste.

a lot less than you think. no 'in potatoes.
