how best deal with this?

he does eat 75% of his food about half of the time at the moment (it varies) so is acutlaly doing ok..so i give a tiny dessert as a reward if does well

but seems ot be getting more and more insistent that is all

tnatrum of say no

snacks are crackers, fruitpot, rasins, low cal biscuits etc

is that the right approach?

Can't you have a pudding as part of the meal?I wouldn't have it as a reward, it is giving the message that it is nicer than the main part of the meal.
Put the snacks somewhere else so he doesn't know where they are.

I have had some success putting dinner & pudding on the same plate

Not always & not with every child

I have one child who when teething will eat half his dinner, his yogurt then finish his dinner
