Hey im new to this and looking for some advice... my 9 mth old has completely stopped eating anything on a spoon. He will eat food he can hold himself but he doesnt get enough this way or enough nutrition etc. He even cries at the sight of his bowl and spoon! He wont even eat his favourite foods of a spoon! This is a very recent problem as he was eating fine until about a week and a half ago. Any advice??

you can eat most things with fingers including yoghurt and mashed potato!! If he wont take it from a spoon just let him eat with his fingers - would he use the spoon or a fork himself?

Thanks for your advice - He cant really use a spoon himself but I havent tried giving him yoghurt and mashed potatoe to eat himself. Ill give that a go. Guess it cant be any more messy that everything else he is trying to eat He is also refusing bread so I cant give him mini sandwiches either. Thanks for your advice!!

Don't stress about it .....it won't take him long to be able to use a spoon

Just go with it - ds2 now 15 months did this a couple of months ago and I just went with it and just let him use his hands/spoon.

my ds went through this phase i always left a spoon by the bowl and left let him eat however he wanted to

my ds didnt really use cutlery until 18mths to 2 yrs his 4 now and will still pick some things up with his fingers

try finger food like cubes of cheese, grated carrot, strips of omlette, dried apricots, pieces of apple, pear and banana

dd2 hated spoons so we did the finger food thing otherwise it would all have just been a big battle. It was fine. Now she will eat with a spoon (20 months). Have you googled baby led weaning? Saves all that ruddy pureeing and they can definitely get "enough" with finger food as dd2 is still a little chubster - much bigger than her mush fed older sister.

Three words Baby Led Weanng I did it with ds2 and I am a true convert, basically cut everything up into chip shape until he gets a pincer grip, to make it even more appealing put it in front of you
