DH is American and said that they are to die for so I've made loads (took 30 seconds) to take in to DSs nursery for his last day tomorrow. BUT they just taste of normal sugary cereal to me!! Have I done something wrong and do I now need to make some (in the order of 36) cup cakes instead???

Have you had them before? Are they slightly sticky, with the marshmallow stretching as you pull them apart?

Maybe ask your hubby to try one and see if it is what he remembers them tasting like. They may taste exactly how they should....after all, marshmallows are quite sugary.

yes and yes, though I'm sure they could have coped with more marshmallow in them!

DH is away so he can't taste test and I haven't had them before

As long as the kids will enjoy them, then I'm happy - all under 5 years. The adults will just have to make do!

I made some (for dh's team meeting at work bizarrely ) and they were the sugariest things I'd ever tasted. Went down a storm with a bunch of 20-somethings...

Really? Mine literally just have krispies, butter and marshmallows in them in an attempt to avoid nut traces etc!

We heat up marshmallows and golden syrup together to use as the blending agent.

If we were in the US, we would use corn syrup instead of golden syrup, but golden syrup is 1000x better.

They aren't going to alter the flavour of the cereal. All you are adding is sugar, which is basically flavourless.

ok - so mine sound right then. I just can't imagine people finding them as divine as I'm led to believe!! They taste v bland to me!

The most gorgeous ones I've had since childhood used butter, plain toffees, marshmallows and rice krispies.
I'm sure they wouldn't be as nice without toffee.
