Can you cook pasta in one? How? Rice? How? Veg? Which are best? My kitchen is being done and we are in a cycle of little setbacks which means that I have only a microwave and a toaster with which to cater for us all - and very little space!
I have found some bolognaise sauce in the freezer - what can i do with it - not sure if the dd's would entertain cous cous again!

Thai rice noodles - they cook in 3 minutes in boiling water, so no need to even microwave.

Most veg microwave fine - just a couple of spoonfulls of water and some clingfilm over the bowl to steam them.

Salmon fillets microwave OK. Jacket potatos (as they take a while, cook them all earlier and then just reheat at the end) with broccoli and some boursin would be lovely

Thanks. Hmmm noodles - where are they, i wonder in the debris that was once the kitchen (dashes off to search) still clutching the tagliatelle and awaiting a verdict on that!

To cook pasta:
125g any shape of pasta

1 1/2 litres boiling water

1 teaspn oil

Place the pasta, boiling water and sesame oil into a large microwave proof cooking pot, stir well together to distribute oil. Very carefully place in microwave oven and cook on HIGH power for 10 minutes, stirring once or twice during cooking time.

Stir again, reduce power to medium and continue cooking for a further 3 ? 6 minutes, until pasta is cooked ?al-dente? ? meaning to the tooth ? so that it is cooked to taste, but not soft and soggy.

Is there anybody that you could borrow a slow cooker from?

Why not heat up the bolognese sauce and then serve it in wraps, with grated cheese on top?

potatoes are easy in the microwave. Put new potatoes in a bowl with a little bit of water in the bottom cover with clingfilm and mic for 5 minutes.
