Apologies for such a dim question but I have never made them before.

I vaguely remember my mum using tinfoil - individually or batches? Herbs? Butter?

rub some oil on the outsides and little salt. I cook enough for 2 meals and then reheat them for the 2nd meal.

I also cheat and start mine off in the microwave so it's quicker.

I just prick them and put them in the oven for around 2 hours .

I don't prep mine at all - just chuck them in a hot oven for just over an hour.

If you stick a metal skewer through them before you put them in the oven (and leave it in them while they cook), the middle cooks quicker so you save time/energy, but you still get that lovely oven-baked crispy jacket

One hour or two?

C'mon ladies, I have the dreaded SIL here for a BBQ. I need some consencous (however you spell that). Hidinng in loo to ask MN how to bake tatties isn't making me look like a domestic godess.

Scrub and pat dry, rub a bit of salt on the outside and pop them into a preheated 200 C oven for 75 minutes.

i put a few fork pricks in then put in microwave for 5minutes on hot then turn over then another 5 minutes then into preheated oven, around 200degrees, wrapped in foil for about an hour, hour n half ... then looovely

if you like um with crunchy skins leave in oven longer, if you like softer skins do more microwave time and less oven time

HTH

Ok. Will micro them first. Then oven. They have just pigged out on cake so should be able to hold the off an hour.

Thanks all
