Ok lots ways of doing this.

  1. You can put about an inch of water in the bottom with some Orange slices on the Gammon and in the water, few cloves and some honey.
  1. If you wish to bake it more than steam/boil it then do the above without the water.

3.My slow cooker has an auto button (approx 4 hours on high and then down to low). I usually soak my gammon overnight, change the water filling the crock pot as high as possible, adding bay leaves, onions, etc. etc. to give a tasty stock for soup. Switch on and forget it. We usually have it hot that night for dinner and then the rest cold. Its the best way to cook as the meat remains so moist

4.nigella cola gammon

love the idea of this but don't have slow cooker, however have big stove with a smaller oven i can leave on very low temp while out. Do you know what temp the slow cooker is? My friends usues her slow cooker all the time so think I could give the a try.

I think slow cookers tend to cook between 170 and 280.

I imagine you could put it on 30 minutes medium/high temp and then drop it to lowest temp for the rest of the time. Cook it covered so it doens't burn with water at the bottom so it doesn't dry out and then take cover off when you get home for 20 minutes.
