I want to take some cakes back to PILs when we go to see DPs family at Easter, not so keen on the crispy chocolate nests so was going ot make little chocolate fairy cakes with chocolate topping and mini eggs.

Can I have your instructions for lovely chocolate cake topping/icing/whatever please? I have to go out in an hour and so will pick up whatever ingredients I need then.

TIA

i usually make ganache - half choc, half double cream, melt in saucepan chuck on cake and voila.

I'm going to make these

Oooh, thanks.

Now I can't decide. Do I go all grown-up and do a ganache or do I just stir melted chocolate into my buttercream (which seems to be what's going on in lizziemum's link)

Mmmmm

The ganache here is delish! And it's very easy although you do need to let it cool a lot more than they say or it's too runny to stay on anything.

I make a ganache-type topping (half plain chocolate, half double cream) that I beat hard with an electric whisk.

Thanks everyone, I think I will go for the chocolate in buttercream this time as I want something sticky-uppy so I can put the mini eggs on top.
