Do you cook meat in slow cookers?

It sounds like a good idea that would produce lovely tender meat, but how do I do it?

Do you just pop in a joint and leave it all day or what?

I am vaguely concerned about accidently burning down the house while trying to achieve the perfect roast.

Yup, thats it exactly. Half a cup of fluid, bang it in, turn it on, put the lid on and leave it.
