Was planning on buying a overly pink birthday cake for her but no where has the one I wanted so I want to give making one a try. A shop near us does some brilliant shaped cake tins but I have no ideas for actual recipes. Be warned I am going to make it hugely pink as she is my first dd

my local cake decorating shop always recommends doing a straightforward sponge mixture (i.e. 2oz each of flolur, butter, sugar for each egg). Your shop should be able to tell you how much mixture is needed for the different shaped tins.

I've had various adventures in sugarpaste with all 3 of mine, but one of dd's favourite cakes was a straightforward sponge sandwich (fairly deep) filled with jam & buttercream, and then tons of sugar pink frosting all over the outside, whipped up into peaks, and then all different colours of dolly mixture all over the top and sides of it. She calls it her 'pink cloud cake' and it was extremely pretty and girly if I say so myself. Advantage of American frosting is that it's easy peasy to work with and supposed to be all whippy & uneven so not a problem if you don't have a steady hand. Or I suppose you could use pink butter icing.

Loving the sound of a pink cloud cake! Could have gone for one of those for my birthday....
