I grate them first

MamaG · 17/03/2009 12:22

Yeah, I grate too

daisy99divine · 17/03/2009 12:22

grate them - it will all disappear in a jiffy
possibly too late for this one, but I grate carrots too , nice texture and loads of hidden veg

sachertorte · 17/03/2009 12:22

Good idea for next time!

Grate them- works with butternut squash/ carrots/ peppers too. I grate mine and the 'green bits' just look like herbs by the time you've finished cooking it. Also works with mushrooms as they look just like mince. I'm an expert!

brilliant, will be trying all those veg! Have tried grated carrot in pancake mixture though.. works well if you don´t make the mixture completely suspiciously orange!

Do you all have special graters?
It seems to take me forever (and hurt my hands!) to grate carrot... and I don't actually have to hide veg, dd loves it, but I add it for texture and sweetness.

how much lentils do u use in a normal family size dinner of spag bog? a small cupfull? more?

I just use finest side of grater. seems fine.

Has anyone tried grated parsnip?

I just cook as normal and then blend the sauce with a soup blender at the end - does away with all suspicious lumps. But there is no excuse for putting any vegetables other than a mirepoix and some garlic in a spaghetti sauce, it won't taste right.
