What is the occasion? What is the budget? When?

notamumyetbutoneday · 13/03/2009 08:48

Im doing this next week- DH and I have an 'us night' once a month.

This time:

Starter- pesto and tomato tartlets.
Cut out circles of puff pastry, spread with pesto, top with slices of tomatoes and mozzarella serve with salad.

Main- mini beef wellingtons

Dessert- havent fully decided yet, its either going to be melting chocolate and orange puddings OR tiramisu.

last time was:

starter: bacon, avocado and spinach salad

main: pork in a creamy mushroom and white wine sauce with baby roast potatoes

Dessert- baileys chocolate mousse

Hope that helps! I can link to recipes if you would like

oh thats sounds lovely i havent really got an budget in mind and no special occassion just the fact we dont go out as much since ds arrived plus things are very expensive at the moment. We normally have a takeaway but i thought it would be nice to cook and try something different make more effort. Loving the 'us time' once a month think thats what we are trying to achive

Risotto is a nice meal to make together, you are basically glued to the hob for 25 minutes and it is fun with a glass of wine in hand.

ChopsTheDuck · 13/03/2009 09:34

my last one was -

scallops with blinis and horseradish and caper mayonnaise.

venison haunch with juniper berries, garlic and rosemary with truffle mash and a red wine jus.

lemon and passionfruit mousse and ameretto biscuits

made the mousse in advance, and the mayonnaise, so didn't spend too much time in the kithcen during the meal at all.

mum2samandalex- for us the main thing has been spending time and cooking together which has been so enjoyable, also doing a bit of experimenting with the cooking so if something hasn't turned our perfectly we have just laughed about it.

you said you make the thing every time, what is it that you normally make?

mum2samandalex · 13/03/2009 16:23

garlic mushrooms, beef strogonoff or lasangne and banoffee pie or fresh fruit and fondu lol not very exciting

Starter - panfried scallops on a bed of rocket with a balsamic reduction

Main - Poached monkfish with a saffron and caper sauce on a bed of fresh spaghetti

Dessert - molten mocha fondant puddings with extra thick whipped cream

notamumyetbutoneday · 13/03/2009 16:33

CoV- please could I have your recipe for molten mocha fondant puddings? Would you recommend as a recipe for a reasonably decent cook albeit one who struggles with baking?

Thanks!

CharleeInChains · 13/03/2009 16:48

I would do.

Spiced mini Crabcakes with a thai salad.

Really good Steak with homemade chips, Salad, Mushrooms and Fried Egg.

Melt in the Middle Chocolate puddings.

ComeOVeneer · 13/03/2009 17:00

notamummyyetbutoneday, it is seriously simple but impressive.
