Vegan babies and weaning - any hints, tips, advice or recipes?

I am vegan, my partner is not, and our 9 month old baby is subsequently mostly vegan.

I feel that I want him to be a broad eater, and want him to make up his own mind about being vegan when he's ready, so I have decided to sit back and not make a fuss if he wants to eat things that aren't vegan. But because we eat vegan at home, almost everything he has had so far is vegan...
What are other vegan mums out there doing?

If you want him to be a broad eater and make his own mind up about being vegan then offer him whatever your non-vegan partner has. By just offering him what you have you're not giving him a broad choice. For example I hate oranges but still buy them and give them to my 1 and 3 year old because they are nutritionally sound and what i eat and enjoy shouldnt affect what my DC's eat.

Most of what my partner eats at home is vegan, but the LO has tried some un-vegan things we've had in the house.
I kind of thought my partner and everyone else would end up offering him other foods alot more, but it never actually seems to happen.
And, I feel a bit weird when I give him things that I wouldn't eat - I can't share what he's eating or lick his face afterwards !

I would get some proper dietary advice from a paediatric dietician personally...

No experience as a vegan, but I'm raising my baby as a vegetarian and saw a paediatric dietitian at the start. I went for a private appointment as this was more convenient, but you can see one on the NHS. I found it to be incredibly useful. If my baby was being raised as a vegan I would see one as a matter of course.

what sort of things did they advise, aribcabean?

And a shed load of lentils.
We eat lentils like they are going out of fashion.

and kidney beans,
and chick peas and then the rest is easy...

was hoping for some recipes

There's a great book called 'Feeding your Vegan infant with confidence' which I found very useful.

DD (now 2.5) has more of a veggie diet these days and I'm happy for her to try most things within reason (if she ever wants to try chicken it'll be free range organic rather than drummers)
