What kind of sugar in flapjack?

I've never made flapjack before, and wanted to make some chewy ones, I can't find out which sugar I'm supposed to use though. Alot of recipes say brown sugar, but is that demarera, light brown soft, or dark brown soft? Thanks X

Demerara in my recipe but I put a bit of dark brown in to make it taste slightly better. However, mine don't do chewy, more crumbly. It's the golden syrup that does the stick really!

I use a mixture of light brown sugar and golden syrup which makes lovely chewy flapjacks
