M&S ready to bake cakes

Whilst in M&S food hall, I found their new range of ready to bake cakes and (feel lazy) decided to buy the chocolate cakes and chocolate buttercream - and they are blooming lovely - taste homemade!

Now I know you can make them cheaper at home (I am normally good and make my own) - but they were on offer and had lots to choose from (Chocolate brownies, marble cake, banana loaf & several types of cookie dough).

So I just thought I share in case anyone else was feeling lazy!

why not just buy a cake?

georgiemum · 03/03/2009 13:55

Don't you need to add butter and milk ? - you are halfway to making one from scratch anyway!

I am just smug because I made jam donut muffins today. yum yum yum

annaje · 03/03/2009 14:01

No - you don't need to add anything - they come ready to cook in the oven (they a basically cake batters). They taste like homemade rather than something you buy in the shop.

How bizarre.

belgo · 03/03/2009 14:03

sound nice. I'm not only lazy, but absolutely hopeless when it comes to baking, and ready made batter appeals to me!

annaje · 03/03/2009 14:07

Belgo - very easy - just stick them in the oven for 18 mins.

I couldn't resist and have eaten two already

do they have bizarre ingredients to preserve teh batter in its pre-baking state?

belgo · 03/03/2009 14:09

probably Goat. No worse then ready made meals and frozen pizzas imo.

JustCallMeGoat · 03/03/2009 14:10

belgo - get yourself a copy of the domestic goddess and get baking!

bellavita · 03/03/2009 14:12

Baking is very theraputic! I have made anzak biscuits this morning and blackberry oat bars.

annaje · 03/03/2009 14:12

the cup cakes are small (more for kids) which is why I could eat 2 without the guilt. But they cooked nicely and looked lovely once iced and decorated in sprinkles

I know it's not for everyone - but great if you don't like/rubbish at baking - they have a short shelf life and no preservatives (unlike the boxed cakes which last for weeks)

Goat even if I had a recipe in front of me and all the ingredients , I assure you, I will still manage to stuff it up somehow.

JustCallMeGoat · 03/03/2009 14:17

it is probably a good thing belgo. i make great cakes and have a fat arse to prove it.

seeker · 03/03/2009 14:21

6oz soft butter, 6oz self raising flour, 6oz caster sugar, 4 eggs.

Put in bowl, beat with electric whisk, put in tins, bake.

No additives, fool proof, and quicker than going to Marks and Spencer.

bellavita · 03/03/2009 14:22

and cheaper seeker..

belgo · 03/03/2009 15:26

cheaper, and less packaging, I know, but I will still mess it up somehow.

seeker · 03/03/2009 15:38

No you won't. Honestly. If you can bake the M and S one you can make a real one. Go on, give it a try!

EyeballsintheSky · 03/03/2009 15:38

seeker · 03/03/2009 15:49
