Does mash potato freeze? On a cottage pie?

When freezing cottage pie DP (trained chef) always freezes the base only and we add mash once it is defrosted.

Is there a reason for this? Does mash not freeze? He is out and I am about to start cooking one and want to know ehether to do mash for my freezing one.

Yes should be fine, I have frozen "whole" cottage pie many times.

yes

I think I have done it before TBH. It is just that DP's behavior as a trained chef is making me doubt myself I think.

yup it'll be fine

obviously it does commercially, but it seems to go a bit hard when defrosted. fresh mash is much nicer

I freeze my cottage pie. I also make extra mash to freeze. It's not quite as good as fresh - but it's worth it for every day for the speed.

i do it for cottage / chicken / shepheards pie no problem
