It takes me half a bloody day to cobble one together, I find it a PITA to make but it is a firm family favourite in our house.

If you have a secret quick lasagne recipe please share it!

Exctly - it is a total fanny to make imo. Only quick if you have made and frozen it in advance.

abraid · 26/02/2009 11:38

It takes me for ever to make, too!

So does fish pie.

bluebump · 26/02/2009 11:39

It isn't that quick for me to prepare one (say 30 mins) but I cannot cook and it's about the only thing I can cook without looking at a recipie (cheese sauce from scratch and all!)

amidaiwish · 26/02/2009 11:46

i make bolognaise sauce in batches and freeze it.
then to make lasagne i just do the cheese sauce and pasta.
but even then i don't think it is a "quick" meal unless it is a ready made bought one!

Cies · 26/02/2009 11:47

I agree - for me it's the kind of meal I'll prepare on a long rainy afternoon listening to the radio and pottering about at other things at the same time.

mishymoo · 26/02/2009 11:49

It is a real faff to make unless you cheat and buy the bolognaise and the white sauce

Hassled · 26/02/2009 11:49

AFAIC you have to simmer bolognaise sauce/ragu for at least 3 hours to have it at its best - so no, lasagne can never be described as a quick meal. But I do often cook double quantities, so we'll have spag bol one night and then a lasagne later in the week - then it's fairly stress-free.

flowerybeanbag · 26/02/2009 11:49

It is quick if you do double portions then freeze the extra, then you just defrost and heat up for a minute. But the initial cooking of it is not quick.

fruitshootsandheaves · 26/02/2009 11:50

Ir gets eaten quick...maybe thats what they means

fruitshootsandheaves · 26/02/2009 11:50

*mean not means

bigTillyMint · 26/02/2009 11:51

It's quick to eat and none gets wasted

noddyholder · 26/02/2009 11:51

i think risotto's a pain too

Hassled · 26/02/2009 11:54

Risotto is indeed a pain, and for little return. You spend hours stirring, and it tastes like sophisticated babyfood, with the consistency of sick.

bigTillyMint · 26/02/2009 11:57

But risotto is yummy

uberalice · 26/02/2009 12:12

Yes, it is a faff to make but I can recommend using a tin of Cambell's condensed mushroom soup instead of making a white sauce. Not only does it save time but it tastes lovely.

It's a quick meal when you do it properly

PortAndLemon · 26/02/2009 13:13

Risotto's only about 25 minutes IME (although that is 25 minutes of constant stirring so not helpful when you are trying to stop DCs killing each other at the same time). That's excluding time taken to make the stock, though (I do often sometimes buy ready-made stock).

risotto takes a lot of fiddle Making stock stirring adding stock stirring adding wine stirring....... Yummy but hassle

motheroftwoboys · 27/02/2009 18:23

But if you always make stock when you have a roast chicken carcass then risotto is dead easy. It is one of my fail safe meals when I don't think there is anything in the frige. I always fry the meat/fish/veg whatever first though, then add the stock - and stir [grin} then chuck in some butter/parmesan at the end. Most important thing is the right sort of rice. Love risotto!!

RamblingRosa · 03/03/2009 13:10

I agree re. lasagne. It's not difficult...it just takes a while and seems to create a huge amount of washing up. Risotto is easy (and less washing up!) but it is annoying that you can't just leave it to cook you have to stand there stirring forever.

ChopsTheDuck · 03/03/2009 13:15

it is quick if you make 2/3 at once and freeze them ready to cook off for teh next time.

Actually, even if I don't have lasagne in the freezer, I have white sauce.

I don't make the pasta myself though.

ChopsTheDuck · 03/03/2009 13:17

risotto doesnt have to be a faff, fry oinions and garlic in butter, stir in rice, pour over a few jugs of stock, italian herbs and a few cups of frozen veg. Leave til cooked then stir in parmasan and cream.

One of my quick fix dinners for the kids.

BCNS · 03/03/2009 13:21

oh we're having lasange for tea tonight.. suppose it took about 20 mins to cobble together ( pasta dough was already made from the last time, so just had to chuck it through the machine).

all I have to do now is turn oven on, so I guess if you have time to cobble it together earlier.. it's quite quick at the end of the day to just turn on and serve.
