Not sure whether I am condemning my family to the next few days hunched over or on the toilet if I use it.

What does your freezer say? (star thingy)

BlueCowWondersAboutPancakes · 19/02/2009 17:23

I would eat it (but always err on the side of never wasting anything!) No one round her has ever been ill because of it!

MissisBoot · 19/02/2009 17:24

I'd eat it - isn't fish 6-9 months for freezing?

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 19/02/2009 17:24

I would eat it as long as it wasnt for little ones

mrsmaidamess · 19/02/2009 17:24

The advice on the frozen salmon is eat within one month of freezing...we are now 6 months down the line...I reckon I'm going to risk it..otherwise its just going to be mashed potato pie.

Once something is frozen, isn't it frozen? I don't understand why the length of time matters if it hasn't been defrosted. But then I'm a kitchen disaster!

I read an article in the Times (I think) recently more or less saying you can ignore all the eat-by dates for frozen food. I'd eat it, personally (and feed it to my kids!).

mrsmaidamess · 19/02/2009 17:28

Yes eyeballs you are right. I suppose it could stay in there indefinitely.

Ho Hum. Gotta go and make the bloody thing now.

Are you sure beans on toast wouldn't be a safer option all round?

I'd bung it in.

poppy34 · 19/02/2009 17:44

surely its ok if your freezer is ok (we used to have a fabulous one that would defrost itself every time we went away then refreeze so you were never 100% sure what state the food had been in )

SweetCheeksLovesSweetTalk · 19/02/2009 17:44

Not indefinitly, freezing slows decay right down but it doesnt stop it so eventually it wouldnt be safe to eat

mrsmaidamess · 20/02/2009 10:37

Well I didn't make the fish pie (I know you've all been on the edge of your seats all night wondering what the outcome of this gripping thread was)

I baked the salmon in foil with olive oil and lemon and it was delish.

I gave dh the portion that was 6 months old.

Thanks for all your posts x
