Things to do with bananas

We bought a bargainous bag of bananas from the market this weekend and I have about 10 left. DH and I have only really started eating bananas since DS (10mo) started eating them so I don't know what to do with them apart from peel them!

The only recipes I can find contain either nuts or alcohol. Def don't want DS to have alcohol and would prefer not nuts. Any other bright ideas? Happy to use lots of spices or flavourings, and we do eggs, wheat etc. I don't mind DS having a little bit of sugar now he's 10.5mo - not had any before but happy to give him a little treat - but would prefer it if it's nothing too sweet.

thanks christiana. i thought it might be okay (i do give him sauces that contain wine) but was just a bit concerned it would be a strong flavour, plus only just starting to intro nuts so thought i probs shouldn't start with that recipe. sounds like i should give it a go one day though!

Chop them into bits a few inches long, stick lolly sticks in them, freeze - voila banana ice lollies! yum.

I make the Nigella banana bread recipe without the rum, if it's the one where you soak the raisins in it, since it's not a drink we ever have in the house, and it's still yummy.

You can chuck them in chocolate brownies, makes them really moist and it doesn't taste at all of banana oddly enough.

how do you make banana crumble?

Jux · 19/02/2009 23:27

Christiana, apparently it does work though I haven't done it myself, my cousin used to do it and I have had one. I might give it a go myself sometime, but dd doesn't really like banana so we get them for me and I like them au naturelle so much that I don't know that I would manage to chop them without eating them!

Muffins?

Sounds odd but it's a good kids pleaser - if you make a sandwich with 2 pieces of toast and spread Marmite inside and then slice a banana - it's delicious! (Of course, you have to be on the Love it side of the Marmite debate!
