The liquid is butter, olive oil and vermouth. How can I turn it into gravy once the chicken is done?

Drooool..... me too.

JackieNo · 18/01/2009 12:06

Um, maybe cornflour, to thicken it up? Not sure though. Or stir in some cream...

Overmydeadbody · 18/01/2009 12:08

drooool

You could:

melt a little butter, wisk in some flour and add the juices to that (like a gravy)

or

Mix a few teaspoons of cornflour with cold water, or cold stock and then add it to the juices and heat it all up until thickened. This will give a clearer sauce, like you'd get with a stir-fry, as opposed to the more cloudy gravy-like sauce that normal flour-butter mix will give.

sounds lovely, talk us through it.
No idea on gravy though, was also thinking cream.

I will do the recipe in a bit. DD hassleing me for food.

I am wondering if I can put the slow cooker pot on the hob to do it that way and keep it warm?

CAn you post recipe? My mouth is drooling at the thought of Buttered chicken and garlic.

NewAmazingBeginning · 18/01/2009 12:27

Buttered Chicken with garlic
serves 6

1 lemon, cut into quarters
4 garlic cloves
1.75g/4lb chicken
60ml/4 tbsp olive oil
100g/4oz/1/2 cup butter
45ml/3tbsp chopped fresh parsely
60ml/4tbsp dry white vermouth

Push the lemon pieces and one of the garlic cloves into the cavity of the chicken. Cut the remaining garlic into slivers.

Heat the oil and butter in a large frying pan and quickly brown the chicken on all sides. Transfer to the slow cooker.

Stir the garlic slivers, parsley and vermouth into the remaining butter in the frying pan, then pour over the chicken, scraping out every last drop.

Cover and cook on high for 4-5 hours.

Thankyou x

siriusmew · 18/01/2009 12:31

Can it be done in the normal oven?

JackieNo · 18/01/2009 12:32

I'd be wary of putting the slow cooker pot on the hob, unless your slow cooker instructions specifically say you can - most can't take that sort of direct heat - better to transfer the juices to a roasting tin or saucepan, imo.

NewAmazingBeginning · 18/01/2009 12:33

Good idea, Jackie.

I wouldn't have thought so siriusmew.
