My first one is probably going to be Asda or Sainsburys but . . . where can I get brown food colouring, or how can I make brown butter icing?

My second is . . . when I've made the cake, before decorating it; do I need to leave it for a couple of days or do anything to it to make it easier to decorate apart from making sure it's cooled properly?

Thanks for any advice/help

If you can leave the cake overnight the texture 'settles' and makes it much easier to cut, etc.

If you're just using buttercream then the liquid food colouring from supermarkets is fine. Don't, whatever you do, use it to colour sugarpaste, it will make it disgustingly sticky and unworkable.

Or, you can melt some dark chocolate and mix that with the buttercream (you'll probably need extra icing sugar to make it the right consistency) which is yummy .

Did you get the instructions and gum trag?

thanks Olihan, much appreciated.

I thought I had emailed to say thank-you, sorry, yeah I did. Been a bit preoccupied as my SIL2B has had a few scares of early labour over the past week so been trying to keep everything calm & sort out something for the baby as they haven't got anything yet

If I make the cake Thursday to ice/decorate Saturday evening it would be ok I guess?

It'll be fine, just make sure it's in an airtight box. Glad you got the stuff, hope your SIL is okay and baby stays where it's meant to be .
