I just bung everything in and hope for the best, an approach that only let me down once (why did I think couscous could sit there for 6 hours without looking like vomit by the time I came home?)

pmsl - brilliant

I can't remember if I have to brown the beef first or not though

dizzydixies · 14/01/2009 10:35

I had this dilema yesterday - I decided to microwave jackets quickly when we got in.

If you do - let me know how they go as I wasn't sure whether they would just turn to mush.

I had a couple of ounces of pearl barley to thicken it up - which is highly recommended.

dizzydixies · 14/01/2009 10:40

I don't have any barley but I do have broth mix which is technically the same thing

how much beef stock/cubes/water did you use?

god, I should just shut up about it and go and do it, it may all come flooding back to me lol

I would use half a stock cube and 3/4 pint of boiling water

and yes chuck some of that broth mix in

dizzydixies · 16/01/2009 20:44

should have read your bit about 3/4 pint of boiling water

I chucked in loads of boiling water and it ended up more like soup

was still lovely though
