I have tidied out my pantry cupboard and have approximately one years supply of

pearl barley

dried soup mix

so, I can do dahl, adding lentils to minced meat based dishes and a chicken and green lentil hotpot...

what else can i do?

also, i have chickpeas and coconut milk, which i am sure i could do something with

Please help, I have sinusitis and my head hurts

well you could do a nice curry with the chickpeas and coconut milk- say with a thai curry paste and add potato or butternut squasg

you can make LOTS of soup with that lot too of course but am sure you knew that

PinkPussyCat · 13/01/2009 13:41

Lol

At least your bowels wil be ok

Lots of curries + casseroles etc is all I can think of atm...

CatIsSleepy · 13/01/2009 13:43

squasg? squash...

have made a nice soup with pearl barley too though i can't remember the exact recipe....it also had butternut squash, and um..other stuff in it...was flavoured with fennel seeds i think...and had some chilli in too...(sorry to be vague!)

CatIsSleepy · 13/01/2009 13:43

yes you'll be very regular

cyanarasamba · 13/01/2009 13:43

Barley risotto
Beef stew with barley
Bean fajitas
Homemade baked beans
Chicken & chickpea korma

Or wait till you feel better and get a take-away, you have my permission.

beans and lentils are great in a sausage casserole with tomatoes and various herbs and spices.

aubergine and lentil soup is lovely too as is chicken mulligatawny soup.

Lulumama · 13/01/2009 13:45

hahahahaha! I KNEW this would be you

chickpeas - make houmous

make a lentil stew or add to things instead of potato (chicken and free lentil)

Lamb and pearl barley is diving BTW

rubyslippers · 13/01/2009 13:47

free lentils?!

green lentils

CatIsSleepy · 13/01/2009 13:47

tsk at your dh sneering at lentils!

actually, here's that soup recipe . I liked it alot but dh didn't, sadly, so i probably won't make it again, which is a bit of a shame...

hope you feel better soon

rempy · 13/01/2009 13:47

there is a covent garden bengal lancers soup recipe that is red lentil and coconut milk, very very tasty.

falafel with your chickpeas.

I have a similar stock to you in my cupboard.

I sometimes wonder how long we could survive in some catastrophe, probably several months...!

CatIsSleepy · 13/01/2009 13:49

green lentils are nice with fish...dress them up with lemon juice and nice olive oil and accompany with lots of mash

Lulumama · 13/01/2009 13:51

presume you meant divine rather than diving, ruby !

thanks cat

i am going to make myself chickpea curry, am doing chicken risotto for the DCs with leftovers, DH can staaaaaaaaaaaaaarve if he don;t want the pulses !
