I bought some sausage meat and a pack of pre prepared puff pastry to make sausage rolls for tea yesterday - but we had such a huge lunch it wasnt necessary.

The date is up on the meat today so I thought about making some sort of meat pastry thing for tonight's meal. But I am hopeless at ideas etc.

How do I do it? and is it better to make one big one for the whole family or individual ones for each of us.

I was thinking of serving 'it' with mash potatoes.

TIA

Oh and ps I dont have much time today to prepare it so the easier the better, thanks!

just make suasage rolls as you'd planned
but long ones rather than bite-size

thansk MrsB - I suppose I wanted to make something a bit more 'dinner' like instead of Sunday afternoon 'tea' like...

serve hot with mash and peas and eat with knife, fork and ketchup?
sounds like dinner to me...

I madea sort of gala pie over xmas. Mix in finely chopped onion and sage, witht he sausage meat. Boil some eggs. line a loaf dish with your pastry lay in the egss, and then fill it with the sausage meat. Cover the top with pastry, bake, cut into slices and serve!

Roo, out pastry and spread sausage meet across it leaving an inch all around. Then roll both sided of the pastry into the middle until they meet. Cut thin slices and bake (sorry not sure for how long) - result is swirly pastry sausage things.

I have this recipe in one of the supermarket free mags but can't find it at the moment. This is the idea in essence though!

Whoops meant 'roll'

I think the egg in the middle gets my vote!

Just to let you know what I did.

I made the DC sausage puffs - basically squares of pastry with sausagemeat in the middle folder over into squares. they loved them.

And for the adults I made a large square of pastry, spread the sausagemeat out along the centre, then added some fried onions and lots of mushrooms (fried in butter but I think that really made a difference)added some sage leafs and then pulled the corners up around the 'pile'. The pastry didnt cover it all, but I think that made it look more attractive. Brushed the top with egg to give it a shine. And if I say so myself it looked pretty impressive (and from the little I had tastes pretty good too!
