Just trying it out for the first time.

Its been rising for 9 hours but looks very ummmmmmmm flat.

what is in it? you could fold it for encouragement, although possibly not after nine hours. bread doesn't rise so well in winter.

the you tube thingy shows and light and springy dough after 12 hours

Not what i have.

Its just 3 cups flour 1/4 tsp yeast 1 tsp salt and 1 1/2 cups water.

when are you meant to cook it? what temp? i have not heard of this recipe

zanz1bar · 11/01/2009 22:48

you mix up the dough, but don't knead it and leave it for 12/18 hours.
Then tip it out on a floured cloth for 2 hours
Then heat the oven to MAX(really hot 220-240)with a casserole style dish/ le creuset heating up in the oven. i am using pyrex dish.
drop dough into dish cover with lid and cook for 1/2 hour, uncover for 1/2 hour.
Then according to youtube amazing artisan style bread?

Agree that it may be too cold for it to rise properly - maybe try warmer water next time.

zanz1bar · 11/01/2009 23:09

oh heck i will just leave it in the artic kitchen for another upteen hours and cook it tomorrow am.

doomed. i can see how it would/should work but if it isn't puffy now then bah. pyrex isn't cast iron either so won't give the required heat.

go on, prove me wrong....

Can recommend this for good explanations of how bread works.

NotADragonOfSoup · 18/01/2009 20:56

I have a fab no knead bread recipe.

It's called a bread machine.

Chuff all effort whatsoever

littleducks · 18/01/2009 21:01

im trying to avoid buying one!

zanz1bar · 19/01/2009 11:22

six loaves of bread made now and even DC eat it.

Its a bit moist in the middle but makes great toast.

also it needs more salt than the recipe says.

I am hooked, just mix and leave the last lot got left for 26 hours(weekend busy) tasted great this morning.

Don't have to wash up bread mixer. in fact don't even touch dough.

So, was this the same dough that didn't seem to be doing anything?
