Anyone know if you can get a red natural food colouring.

I want to make some pretty pink icing for cupcakes, but really want it to be natural.

Any ideas?

Here. Beetroot, I know it sounds crazy but it works.

Thanks COV, have you ever used it for your lovely cakes?

i use high fruit jam (eg dalfour) plus philadelphia style cheese, liquidised together
it makes a lovely, pink, naturally sweet icing

Yes, it works fine and really has no detectable taste. ANother option would be to make a raspberry or strawberry based buttercream, although the colour will be paler and less uniform (a sort of "grainy/pulpy" flecking rather than pure pink)

Thanks all those ideas sound lovely.
