Have you ever tried to melt a cadbury's flake?

ds2 has a thing for chocolate spread on bread and sometimes has it as a snack. We were out of spread so I thought with all the chocolate we had from selection boxes I'd melt a flake and spread it on bread.
It WOULDN'T melt! Just went into bits??
Luckily I had an ordinary dairy milk left so used that but the flake was weird. Put me off eating them tbh.

How were you trying to melt it?

themoon66 · 07/01/2009 18:24

I'm sure they melt if you bite a bit off and then have a sip of hot tea.

mrsmaidamess · 07/01/2009 18:25

Maybe its already been melted once and then hardened into its 'flake 'shape?

JumpingDizzy · 07/01/2009 18:25

yes they must melt like that but I did it in a bowl over steaming water.

there must be 'something' in it to give the flake?

Here are the ingredients

SUGAR, MILK INGREDIENTS, COCOA BUTTER, UNSWEETENED CHOCOLATE, MODIFIED VEGETABLE OIL, MODIFIED PALM OIL, AMMONIUM SALT OF PHOSPHORYLATED GLYCERIDE, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS.

Perhaps something in there that keeps it all together.

I had a flake for the first time in years this week (DS's selection box ), and is it just me or are they not 'flaky' anymore

Verysadtosay · 07/01/2009 18:32

They are not like they used to be

JumpingDizzy · 07/01/2009 18:37

oh but they do still crumble and you end up sitting on bits, then walk off like you have shit yourself without realising!

It is the taste that is not the same i think

BrownSuga · 07/01/2009 18:54

I'm partial to a bit of AMMONIUM SALT OF PHOSPHORYLATED GLYCERIDE on my oats of a morning.

You'll be glad to know there's nothing to worry about, it's down to the distribution of the fat,
