Planning my first dinner party in about 2 years( NY resolution 6 friends meet once a month each cooks 2x during the year)
I am first, so all recipes are ok as nothing to avoid from previous dinner parties.

One guest does not eat fish

I am a competant cook, and would like to ry one dish I haven't done before....

if we do Dinner parties we tend to go for soups as starters very often....just amkes preparation easier...

You could serve old classic pate and oatcakes. Very easy to make up in advance, so no work really to be done on the day.

trouble is no offal, and pate is liver

glad to be off help...
I miss "dinner parties" (am using this term loosely)...years ago, dh and me and anohter couple did fortnightly dinnerparties and we would take it in terms to cook and as we all liked board games and things like that, we would always have a few games after...it was so much fun... am still missing it and that was like 9 years ago...lol

Hope you have a good time, but am sure you will

Oh, stuffed mushrooms of some sort might also a good starter, and can be pre-prepared
