I have a marble one, a glass one and a wooden one. Need to clear the kitchen a bit and really only need one so which is more hygenic?

we use plastic - both dishwashable and kind to knives

wooden is ok for bread but a pain to clean
marble and glass shag your knives

Thanks Mrs Badger, I hadn't considered dishwashing a plastic one.

I do love chopping on my wooden one but never feel it is really clean.

I hate the sound made by cutting on a glass one.

we had a wooden one and it fell to pieces after it went in the dishwasher. we now dont bother buying anything if it doesnt go in the dishwasher.

My cousin makes wooden boards and bowls and so forth, and he told me that wood has some sort of natural antibacterial properties in it which make it perfectly hygienic for chopping boards. But there again I suppose he would say that (and I do wonder if that would last indefiitely anyway). Anyway, I've always used wood and never had any problems, and they look nicer than anything else IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I too had heard about wood having natural antibacterial properies. I don't cut meat or fish on it anyway.
