do dry pulses really go off?

trauma

just realised my stash of dried pulses are almost all out of date, some only by a month but others by a year!

are these use by dates quite flexible guidelines I can safely ignore or shall I bin the lot and start afresh?

Dried bananas would never work in something savoury. They're very oily and greasy and in general I agree that they are NOT nice.

I am whizz at putting meals together with leftovers.

If in doubt, put out for birds.
A few incredibly hefty ravens made of with remains of my rib of beef yesterday.

fishie... erm 'Tofu Surprise'?

aka Tofu in a mincemeat and mushroom sauce with shredded cabbage.

the parma ham and cava would be very welcome round here.

fishie · 04/01/2009 22:27

mincemeat the sweet thing md! yucko fried into cabbage oh gripe.

tuna dip is a splendid kosher thingy with mini gherkins chopped into it and is lovely with salted capers on top.

harpomarx · 04/01/2009 22:29

ah, now you are speaking my language fishie! Anything with gherkins and capers is splendid imo.

moondog · 04/01/2009 22:29

Oh Christ then, scrap that.

Ok, if Jewish could work. Not some sloppy thing made with cheap mayo then? (Retching as i type)

moondog · 04/01/2009 22:29

Capers are staple of my cupboard.

fishie · 04/01/2009 22:33

yes it is lovely, there is also a salmon version. with scandi crisp breads. it was my food accompaniment for eurovision israel / sweden entries for 2008.

harpomarx · 04/01/2009 22:38

hang on.... you have made Eurovision-themed food??? how many countries did you do?

fishie · 04/01/2009 22:40

all, but i bodged it, see swede/israel combo. much easier now there are only 15 or so with heats. my dad used to have to do about 20 and rush in and out every 3 mins with another morsel.

harpomarx · 04/01/2009 22:41

fishie, your dad sounds lovely!

so, what else did you do?

fishie · 04/01/2009 22:45
