My homemade pasta made DD cry

Right, so I've got a manual cheapo pasta maker.

This evening's ravioli was an unmitigated disaster. Actually the filling was delicious (porcini, garlic and thyme) but the pasta itself was a dead loss. Too tough and too thick (I only went down to grade 4...am assuming all pasta machines are similarly graded).

Are there any homemade pasta experts out there who can give me tips??

Start at the thickest and go right down throguh them all, one at a time and pass it through twice at each setting.

Follow the instructions depending on type of pasta.

Not worth cheating ime

Really? All the way down to 1?? 4 seemed terribly thin and fiddly for me to handle [butter fingers]

The instructions on my pasta maker are shite.

Well iirc different things like raviolli and spaghetti etc require rolling to different thicknesses.

I will have a look and see if I can find some recommendations.

Oooh that would be great!
