I fancy doing a ham on boxing day, how do I cook it and whats it called in the shops?

I'm inspired by folk here that actually cook....so what do I do with a ham/where can I buy one/what do I serve it with/does it cost a bomb?

and do I cut the fat off? sounds a bit yucky

can't I buy one that gets scored then boiled and thats it? or am I being daft?

Nigella ham in coke - yum yum yum. I don't really eat the fat on meat so could have done without the glaze quite happily, it just looked prettier with it done.

Another vote for Ham in Coca Cola - made it about three Xmas now - amazing and always impresses.

It's also yummy cooked in apple juice. I find Nigellas trick of bringing the ham to the boil in water, then pour off the water and cover in fresh water/coca cola/apple juice, ensures it's not salty.

The glaze part is easy, when the ham is cooked, just cut off the rind and most of the fat, leave a little fat on for flavour. then make a paste with mustard and brown sugar and spread it on the fat, then into a very hot oven for 10-15 mins. It's very little trouble and sooo worth it.

IMO, the ham makes Christmas lunch, I have no time for turkey
