....as I am beginning to wonder if my food likes are a little odd....

I liek curry made with potato, but rarely find it in recipies unless it is a veg curry (I am currently making chicken tikka, but I have added potato too).

and

the garlic Q.......everyone always comments on my garlic use, but I can never taste it.....I use about 5/6 cloves (depending on size obviously).....is that truly too much, or are my friends just not big garlic users???

Potatoes fine and so is garlic, but other people will smell it. I'd do the same but i don't eat garlic on a work night!

I like potato in curry too, but use a bit less garlic - more like 4 cloves. Don't think 5/6 is excessive though.

Potato a great curry staple.

5/6 cloves seems like a lot to me, but it depends on what you're cooking and how big the dish is.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 20/12/2008 18:34

5/6 cloves sounds like a lot. I use one or two for a meeal for three of us.

psychohohohoho · 20/12/2008 18:36

well.....I cook for 7 of us, so dishes are large.......

hmm......I might be ok then!

I've never made curry without potato! Used to house share with a guy who grew up in India and his speciality was a prawn, egg and potato curry - it was gorgeous.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 20/12/2008 18:38

Oh well that might be fair enough. However if it's just two of you, just make sure both of you are eating it!

Lots of indian dishes seem to have potato. I like it with spinach in a curry. Does fill me up a bit too quick though.

MissisBoot · 20/12/2008 18:38

Yes - potato is good in curry - also helps make things less salty.

I too have a lot of garlic in curries - but make them from scratch - tonights have 7 cloves and the same amount of ginger.

Me and DH will officially stink

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 20/12/2008 18:38

7?? Then 5/6 cloves positively abstemious.

psychohohohoho · 20/12/2008 18:49

making mine from scratch too.....I like tikka, but I am allergic to dairy, which is no good with ready-made sauces etc.

I always put curry in potatoes! And 7 or even 8 cloves of garlic doesn't seem at all excessive to me.

Pantofino · 20/12/2008 19:01

I love potato in curry. In fact I will tend to make a huge one and use up whatever veg is left over, and then freeze some. My dh detests garlic so I have to a bit "gentle" with it's use. He is so sensitive to it that he claims to notice it afterwards even in none mouth related areas if stuff of an intimate nature should take place within a certain time of eating it. Sorry if TMI

Horton · 20/12/2008 19:01

I mean potatoes in curry. Ahem.
