Ds1 is 3yrs and DS2 is 13 mths - both have chickenpox. All they seem to have eaten for the past two days is toast and cheerios and a few chips. I've tried offering other foods but they are not interested. Don't know what else I can do.

I would just go with the flow. Toast and cheerios fine.

Could you vary what is on the toast>?

Plenty of fruit juice and liquids.

I've tried mashed banana - nope, tried avocado - nope, cheese - they had a bit, peanut butter - they had a bit, butter, they like!

Milk? Juice.

Keep offering the toast and cheerios and wait for them to feel less horrid.

When I'm ill, I like to live on toast too.

Mmmm, hot buttered toast.

Don't worry, they'll be fine.

MrsMattie · 16/12/2008 11:19

I let my son eat whatever he can manage when ill - usually toast, juice, maybe a small biscuit...

georgimama · 16/12/2008 11:22

Mmmm, toast and cheerios sounds good to me. I let DS eat whatever he will eat when he isn't well - especially with chickenpox, their little mouths might be sore .

(The scars will look horrendous for a couple of months by the way but they will fade, DS had chickenpox in June and he doesn't have any scars now - his face was covered)

Gorionine · 16/12/2008 11:25

They won't have chicken pox forever and they might even get bored of cherioos half way throug. I would not worry too much as long as they drink enough.

DaisyMooSteiner · 16/12/2008 11:27

God, yes. Cheerios are enriched with vitamins aren't they, and besides, it won't hurt for a few days!

dinkystinkyclaus · 16/12/2008 11:56

Yep, go with the flow and make sure they drink lots of fluids (water, juice, milk - whatever they'll take).

Holymoly321 · 16/12/2008 12:00

thanks everyone, and Georgiemama, thanks for the tip re the scars - DS2 has horrific looking marks on his face poor bub - huge blistery type red things - I can DEF see them hanging around for a LONG time -boo!

Toast and Cheerios is fine...its excellent they are eating anything! Hope they are better soon xx

georgimama · 16/12/2008 12:09

They will go honestly, DS was 15 months when he got it, and it was very hard to stop him scratching. A couple on his forehead he scratched until they bled but the marks have gone now.

Hope they feel better soon - as soon as DS's blisters scabbed we took him to the zoo to cheer him up!
