what type of oil are you using?

duckyfuzz · 08/11/2008 20:04

mine did this recently, sadly I knew the cause - it needed cleaning

giraffescantdancethetango · 08/11/2008 20:05

same ducky

differentID · 08/11/2008 20:07

is it a gas one? you may have cleaning substance blocking soem of the gas jets.

goose fat for the spuds
sausages oozed their own pyrogenic oil
olive oil to lightly coat to season chicken bits was alsop a disaster.

it was ok with the christmas cake in it, so it must be fairly clean!

the oven has been cleaned twice in two weeks

So does mine.
It's fucking useless.
I mourn the AGA I left in my old house every damned day.

WhirlingStirling · 08/11/2008 20:33

Is it getting too hot?

I used to have problems with my cooker so bought an oven thermometer and it showed the temp on the dial was well out.

Thankyouandgoodnight · 08/11/2008 20:41

oh. I suppose it could be that.
Having said that - Delia recommends doing roasties at 220 degrees but I always have mine on about 160-180 to suit the chicken..

Am I never going to be able to roast again?

Could be that the oven has had a previous oil spill, then whenever you use the oven, until its all burnt off it will do as you describe?

I had to clean my oven...bugger...when it did this and then all was well. Until I realised this I would stagger back, eyes a stingin' from the mushroom cloud of smoke, cursing whatever I was cooking.

it's as clean as a whistle inside although there could be stuff on the grill elements at the top inside the oven - can you use cleaner on them?
