Well we are a family of 6..Me, hubby DS 14, DD 11, DD 9, DS 3. Should add I love cooking and after burning numerous saucepans..(cos I get distracted doing more than one job at a time)..thought after reading on MN about how brilliant a slow cooker was..that I would invest in one...

Well I bought the small one to try out....and loved it. Then bought the 6.5 Litre one..and loved it even more. Though it is a bit big for some things that I want to cook like Chilli..if I only want it for one night. Kids sometimes not keen on eating same meal next night etc etc..so I have just bought another one from Tesco..only a tenner so cant really go wrong......hope I do use them all!!!!..but I do love them I am sure I have enough love for the middle sized one too...

Just thought I would share with you that I LOVE kitchen gadgets..any one else as silly as me and lvoe slow cookers all 3 of them..I am a bit mad aren't I...

No, not mad at all! Quite interesting reading your post actually cos I've often thought about getting a slow cooker again cos both my kids and DH love a stew/casserole. I used to use a slow cooker before I had the kids - it was brilliant to time it to come on just before I'd get home from work and I would come home to the smell of tea. So you bought one from Tesco for a tenner? Have you tried it out yet?

cositjustisok · 06/11/2008 07:27

Have ordered it online yesterday Whispywhisp..so may not be delivered until the weekend. It looks great this page
Think a few other MN have purchased this one also. Thanks for saying i ain't mad

Blimey! That's good value for money isn't it?! Can you let us know how you get on with it? Got any ideas how many mouths it'd feed? I know nothing about volume/size etc so it'd be great if it'd feed a family of four.

seb1 · 06/11/2008 10:12

This is the most dinky slowcooker in the world

whispywhisp · 06/11/2008 10:22

seb...yum!

clumsymum · 06/11/2008 10:23

Thanks for this, I'm going to buy one now. I have a 2.5L one that I've owned for about 20 years, (my mum gave it me when I bought my first house) but it's a bit small for family cooking, and I suspect that it takes much longer to come up to temperature than a modern one.

Do go to the library and dig out a couple of slow cooking recipe books. I always used mine just for stews, but one day found a book that explained how to cook LOADS of stuff in it, including fish, egg custards, and even your fruit cake (takes HOURS tho' )

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 10:23

I@ve got that Tesco's one. It's fab.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 10:24

It does 3 SmallDragons and an adult with at least 3 SmallDragon portions left over for the freezer.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 10:32

It does meals for 3 SmallDragons and an adult. It's not big enough to cook dragons in...

Aitch · 06/11/2008 10:44

does it go in the dishwasher, soupy?

Upwind · 06/11/2008 10:49

That does look great

whispywhisp · 06/11/2008 10:58

Can you all now tell the OP she's not mad cos she was worried we'd all think she was posting about her new slow-cooker!!!

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 10:58

the bowl and lid go in the dishwasher, obviously the electric vase doesn't You can't put the bowl thing on the hob or oven though IIRC.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 10:59

electric base. I think my keyboard has been haunted by the ghost of Cod.

cositjustisok · 06/11/2008 12:32

clumsymum I thought my baby slow cooker (one Litre)..was taking ages to get going....think you are right that it is jsut old and takes ages to get to temp. will pop in to the library to borrow some books cos wanna do some rice pudding etc etc.

Whispywhisp thanks for that; at least I dont feel so silly now . Will be cooking in it the day it arrives..gonna do the chilli that was on another thread started by Jumpingjackflasher.

Soupdragon glad you are happy with the Tesco one, have you owned it long?

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 12:37

Three weeks? Maybe four.

SoupDragon · 06/11/2008 12:38

Particularly pleased with the whole chicken I did in it (although I did have to put the legs/wings in "loose" to make it all fit in but it was a large chicken )

whispywhisp · 06/11/2008 12:39

Tesco....out of stock

Have you lot all ordered them and they've run out?

PuppyMonkey · 06/11/2008 12:41

My sister has FOUR microwaves. You're not as nutty as her, at least.

Winetimeisfinetime · 06/11/2008 12:51

I have just resurrected my nearly 30 year old slow cooker that was mouldering in the back of a cupboard and am now sharing the slow cooker love !

I had abandoned it when I became vegetarian but now realise that most veggie recipes can be adapted. I have also just got a vegan slow cooker recipe book as I have the added complication that I can't eat dairy and the lentil and veggie bacon recipe has already become a firm family favourite.

{Hi cosit - long time no see }

cositjustisok · 06/11/2008 13:03

Oh whispwhisp...thats awful that you have not been able to buy one. ... Hope I get mine delivered if stock was low.

PuppyMonkey...I am definately getting there though...does your sister use all 4 microwaves?.

Hi Winetime..good to "see" you again...have you been OK?

Winetimeisfinetime · 06/11/2008 13:13

Same old, same old here cosit - how are things for you and your growing family of slow cookers ?

cositjustisok · 06/11/2008 13:35

All is great here winetime Jsut gonna hide the said new slow cooker from hubby...but should not be too difficult cos it jsut looks like its big sister really and hubby has poor eyesight so should get away with it ...he just makes jokes about my ever increasing kitchen gadgets collection...but hey I am happy and not hurting anyone ...gonna now go check out the library for some recipe books.....trying not ot google and buy any!!!
