I am veggie, my dp isn't. Normally he survives on whatever I dish up which normally isn't anything too exciting. Poor thing is desperate for steak - kids out tonight - so can someone please talk me through it?? I have rib eye steaks, peppercorn sauce, mushrooms, chips, salad, do these go? How long does steak need cooking for etc etc.

Thankyou!!

They will go together lovely.

DP makes a wonderful steak but it is a cardiac arrest waiting to happen.

Grind salt and pepper onto both sides.
Melt about 2tbsp butter in a frying pan.
Fry each side for about 3-5 minutes, depending on thickness and how rare/well done you want it.

I would also fry the mushrooms in butter too.

is frying or grilling better/easier?

If I were you, I would sort out the trimmings for him, then let him cook his own steak. I always prefer to cook my own, I like it rarer than most people think, but not cold!

Fry it. Don't grill it, you might as well serve him a pork chop if you're going to grill it.

BabyBaby123 · 25/10/2008 18:25

yeah, I might just do that - lazy git

Fry but get the pan really really hot before you put the meat in. Don't keep moving it about the pan, wait for 3 mins or so and then turn over. This is something that my DH can do far better than me.

thanks all - went well (I thought) dp said it was a bit 'undercooked' (fried for 5 minutes both sides) but his plate was clean - think I'll let him make his own next time
