I know this is blowing my own trumpet but this worked out just fab!
As we booked a party at a play centre and not home wanted to do something easier for the cakes. Solution - make 'muffin sized' fairy cakes (Nigella 'Love Buns' from Feast). Topped with white Royal icing - decorate with various dolly mixtures - all would get a good sugar hit. Now for the fab bit - bought candles that spelt out Happy Birthday! - so when it came to cake time lined up all the kids with buns in the middle - lit all the candles - all sang and then ds3 blew out candles. Pick up the bun into a napkin and add to party bag - voila - very chic, cheap and effective . One of the Mums asked if she could nick the idea for her daughters party this Saturday too.
