What went wrong with my Nigella Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Icing?

DD and I are in a grump. We went to Sainsburys in the rain to get the ingredients and we have just iced them, added some additional sprinkles and sat down to enjoy the fruits of a rainy afternoons labour...but they are just "yucky". I had to agree with DD.

They are dry, and a bit small, and not very sweet. Certainly not the moist carroty loveliness we were expecting. The icing was nice, but it's too runny. They are going in the DH bin.

They are from her original Domestic Goddess book.

Sorry, I buggered off to do wifey things and missed your question.

The Nigel Slater recipe is here and I've used it almost monthly since it was published.

Ta, have printed. I really HEART Nigel. I could eat from his recipes day and night, but everything he makes has such a blatant disregard for general health of vital organs!

Will report back on how DD and I get on with this one

I have most of his books and need to get a new bookcase so I can get the rest.

The meats he cooks aren't too bad because he usually suggests just some salad leaves with them (very atkinsesque) but the puddings are fabulous.

Nigella and baking do not mix - domestic goddess book particularly poor, not worth wasting time, effort and money and disappointent of LOs. Nigel is fab long live Nigel

My DH does his pumpkin soup. It is beyond gorgeous
