Trying cheaper cuts of meat - belly pork how to cook?

No idea how to cook, fry, grill or roast?

I got six nice big strips for 2.99 from the butcher, couldn't believe it!

Any ideas?

Will be having with roast pots and veg

You can make a fabulous roast but it takes a really long time (google "slow roast belly pork for a huge selection of recipes). I've made stews too, though it is very fatty. I don't think frying or grilling would be that good.

The only way imo to get the best out of this cut is to slow roast it as this allows most of the fat to run off. But it is DELICIOUS.

I slice it thinly and marinade it in soy sauce, a bit of 5 spice, ginger and a bit of vinegar for a few hours. Then I stir fry it with veg (bean sprouts, onion, pineapple and squidge tom puree v. good) have it with mash or noodles.

I love pork belly. One of my favourites..

lots of recipes but basically roast on bed of red cabbage or leeks and apples...

you can cook it any way you'd cook pork.

nice glazed with honey & mustard

How long do I need to roast for and what temp?

Its in strips, not one big piece?

thanks

Next time, buy it in a whole piece. Strip the skin off (or get the butcher to do this). Then on the inside, sprinkle chopped garlic, the zest of a lemon or two, some oregano/herbes de provence/mixed herbs, dried chilli flakes and salt and pepper. Roll it up tightly and tie it up with string. Season the outside and squeeze over some more lemon juice, then roast slowly over a low heat for at least 2-3 hours. Cover with foil if it starts to get too brown on top.

Gorgeous!

rub the pork with with chinese 5 spice powder, garlic powder and a dollop of tomato ketchup or brown sauce
put it in a roasting dish
after 15 minutes turn the temp down to 160 or gm4 and take it out 50 mintues later
servce with steamed rice and green beans
