I just had to tell you about it. Oh the mmmmms that went round the table.

It's chocolate, coffee and rum flavoured and it's a bit faffy to make but it's so worth it.

lucysmam · 28/09/2008 16:20

chocolate, coffee & rum . . . . .would be worth faffing just for the rum

candyfluff · 28/09/2008 16:24

i made her quick chocolate mousse recipe the other week and the verdict was that all loved it soooo yummy

anorak · 28/09/2008 16:26

I don't actually like coffee but I liked this.

Another favourite of ours is her chocolate mousse cake. Cakey on the outside and soft and moussy in the middle.

I got all excited for a moment - but I can't go near anything with rum in it, since being very poorly on rum and blacks (so sophisticated!) when I was 18.

Her Guinness Cake is fab though.

lucysmam · 28/09/2008 16:39

oooh, guinness cake! I'm off to google for recipes I think to try out this week

Bumperlicious · 28/09/2008 16:47

God, you just can't go wrong with a bit of Nigella can you? I made her malteaser cake last week and it was scrummy!

LazyLinePainterJane · 28/09/2008 16:57

I find Nigella has a 62.3% failure rate when it comes to recipes.

roughly

anorak · 28/09/2008 16:57

I had a look at that one Bumperlicious but you need Horlicks to make it and I can't get that where I live. Do you think Ovaltine would work?

OP posts:
janeite · 28/09/2008 18:22

Yes I agree that her baking recipes are very hit and miss. I tried her flapjacks and they were disasterous; brownies too.

Bumperlicious · 29/09/2008 19:56

I'm not sure anorak, any kind of malty drink would work I guess.

TheHolyGrail · 30/09/2008 11:56

Some of the Nigella recipes have mistakes!! The falpjacks is deffo one - here are all the corrections. I've found about a 90% success rate with her recipes but definetly have a few scribbles on many of the pages to show changes made. Typically find that many of the toppings for the cakes are far too generous (for our tastes).

Noodle Soup For Needy People
The ingredients list has "750g sugar-snap peas" which should read "75g
sugar-snap peas".

Spanish Omelette
Step 3 of the method, for both the UK and US versions, should read like this:
"Whisk the eggs in a bowl, then add the peppers, spring onions/scallions and
cheese and season with salt and pepper, then add the cooked, drained
potatoes."

Caramel Croissant Pudding
In the US edition, the amount of sugar in the ingredients list reads as 1 cup, but should in actual fact be 1/2 cup.

Forgotten Pudding
In the US edition, the recipe calls for 1 1/4 plus 2 extra tablespoons of sugar. This is correct. Whereas Step 3 of the method should read: "Gradually add 1 1/4 cup of sugar..."

Thank you, THG. Have copied that into a word file as I use Nigella's books a lot.

I remember making some sort of banana tea bread from one of her recipes once and it was enough for two loaves rather than one!

OP posts:
TheHolyGrail · 30/09/2008 16:18

So do I - have the entire collection not sure if I'm 'allowed' to but the new Xmas book out soon - many of the recipes are repeats but I just can't help myself .

JacobsPrincess · 30/09/2008 16:21

"Chocolate Caramel Crispy Cakes
Mars bars incorrect quantity, should say 3 regular sizes Mars Bars"

I made these and thought they were crap. Now I know why!

janeite · 30/09/2008 16:51

Aha - that explains the flapjack disaster then!

Violetz · 08/12/2008 17:30

TheHolyGrail,

Thanks for the listing of corrections you provided above. I do have a question... are these mistakes you found on your own because you own and use the book? Or did/do you work for the show/publisher? Did you test the listed corrections by executing the recipes as per changes?

missymum · 08/12/2008 22:27

omg am soo relieved about the flapjacks! could not understand why went so wrong before now, thanks!

JackieNoCribForABed · 08/12/2008 22:33

They're on a page on Nigella's website. Under 'News' I think.
