Has anyone tried the frozen goose from Aldi?

We always have turkey at Christmas but as I only cook for 3 adults and one small child I end up buying a crown and freezing half for New years day. However last two crowns I have bought have been boring and tasteless.

I like goose and these seem really good value but is the quality there?

Could not justify buying a goose normally as the last time I checked they were about £40. Seems a large outlay for 3 adults.

not had one from aldi but from sainsburys a few years back which was really good. depends on where it comes from really, the more organic and free range it is the better but also look to see what it was fed on. a natural diet is best as that will include bugs too and not just seeds and other veggie sourced foods.

beware though of some geese. some frozen geeses from france, italy and germany (I only mention these three as these I have had experience of) may be fatted up geese for pate production which means the goose will have an even higher percentage of fat then normal and they do taste a bit bland.

now you have me thinking of goose fat roasted potatoes and parsnips with honey glazed goose, asparagus tips and a tangy citrus sauce. right, am off shopping

DH works for Aldi and he says they sell well and what little feedback he's had has been good.

We've had Aldi geese for Christmas quite a few times. Never been disappointed.

Do make sure you cook it on a rack, and save the goose fat - it is excellent for roasting potatoes.

hmmmmmmm, goose fat roasted potatoes, just what I am cooking now as this thread earlier inspired me to do a roast dinner for tonight. although the fat does come from a tin as I already had a fresh chicken to roast
