Need a lattice cutter today, but haven't got one, so how can I improvise

I'm just about to start making a salmon coulibiac and I've just noticed I need a lattice cutter for the pastry. Any suggestions on how to get the same effect without one or should I just wait until I've got out to the shops?

Can't you just cut a line of 'dashes' with a knife, and then do another one slightly offset from the first so they are alternating? That's all lattice cutters do anyway, and then you stretch it apart?

Or just do strips and criss-cross them over the salmon?

Thanks WilfSell, will try the dashes. I'm a bit of a pastry virgin, so I wasn't really sure what the lattice cutter was going to do.

can you cut thin strips of pastry, then stick lines one diagonal and others the other way iyswim ?

that probably sounds a load of nonsense but maybe you can understand me!

Thanks for the tips. The dashes worked. It's looking tasty.
