Another weirdo food combo from me - orange gravy?

'K, so I've got these duck fillets that come with an orange sauce (they were in the reduced section, wouldn't have paid £7 for them!). Anyway, I am making some rosties and some greens and was wondering whether to use the orange sauce or makes some gravy. Then I though is there some way I could make an orangy gravy, or have I just been watching too much Masterchef?

Ideas please!

Why not? You could make a conventional gravy and add OJ instead of other liquid. Or maybe just make your usual gravy and mix it with their orange sauce. I've made similar when roasting chicken stuffed with oranges.

use orange zest in the gravy and a squeeze of fresh orange.

or try the orange sauce - if it's nice, use it!

Bumperlicious · 19/09/2008 17:10

The reason why I wasn't going to use the sauce is because there isn't much there, and if we are having roasties, y'know...well they need gravy! Hmm, you aren't all weirded out like I thought you'd would be after the pear mash debacle, so maybe I'll try it.

I think I'll make some gravy and add the orange sauce then, tasting as I go along.

Lovely idea stuffing a chicken with lemons. Will try that next time.

squeezing loads of lemon juice on the chicken before you put it in the oven is great too - add some olive oil too and garlic etc and you have ready made 'gravy' to go when the chicken is roasted.

The duck has got me going too....

A classical accompaniment to roast duck is Bigarade sauce which is essentially gravy with the juice and zest of orange added.

NomDePlume · 19/09/2008 17:24

Doesn't everyone stick a lemon up the chickens ar*e when they roast it ?

harpomarx · 19/09/2008 17:25

oh, poor you....

why doesn't your mum get to have duck, doesn't she like it or is it because you want to save it all for yourselves!

am having borrring pizza, really could do with some poultry action.

ooh, just remembered some cold drumsticks in the fridge.

you can send the pie over here if you like.

harpomarx · 19/09/2008 17:57

I think I would like the wellington thingy too, I'm not fussy!

SaintRobertNewton · 19/09/2008 18:02

I don't like smoked salmon, so you have that and I'll have the pie. Sorted!

Now, where did lapin get to?

harpomarx · 19/09/2008 18:05

sheesh, you're more demanding than her if-it's-not-homemade-pastry-I'm-not-having-it husband...
