Anyone got an apple sauce recipe that will keep, unrefrigerated, for a long time?

My friend and I plan to make some for Christmas presents with the ton of cooking apples currently on my tree.

All the recipes we've found so far include butter and need refrigerating.

TIA.

I'm freezing mine. I don't know how to can but if you look up canning recipes (that's what they call it in the states I think)

Unless you make it so sweet that it's apple jam or so vinegary that it's apple chutney you won't be able to keep it. I think you'd need industrial type sterilization plant to be able to keep normal apple sauce for so long. You could freeze in bulk then bottle it up just before you give it.

Thanks, ladies. That's helpful.
